HHLA’s intermodal company Metrans has presented Hungary's first electrically powered truck for container transports today. The new e-truck is part of the company’s strategy to enable a fully carbon-neutral form of combined road-rail transport of containerized goods.

As part of its environmental strategy, Metrans now offers carbon-neutral transport not only by rail but also by road with the first e-truck on the Hungarian market. The new e-truck will be part of the fleet of WIN Capital, Metrans' road transport partner, and will be used primarily for the delivery of international freight cargo. Metrans is the first company in Hungary to offer a 100% carbon-neutral and climate-friendly way of transporting goods.

 Péter Kiss, CEO of the Metrans Group, is fully committed to a holistic climate protection approach in the logistics sector: “Reducing CO2 emissions in intermodal transport is a top priority for Metrans. The first domestic e-truck is a further proof point for our ambitions, along with our energy-efficient electric and hybrid locomotives or electric container cranes.”

The prototype of the new e-truck was converted from a DAF XF Super Space Cab. The conversion, including the new electric motor and battery packs, increased the vehicle's curb weight by just 130 kilograms. The new e-truck has a range of around 200 kilometers at full load. The e-truck's on-board charger charges the batteries to 100% in 5 hours at 400 volts, 64 amps DC. By using a fast charger, the charging time can be reduced to 2 hours. The e-truck not only protects the climate, it also reduces noise pollution. The electric motor does not idle, the start-up itself is quiet and there is only a soft sound after starting.
