Dopravný podnik Bratislava (DPB or Bratislava Transport Company) will purchase 10 new two-way low-floor trams. The project "Trams for Bratislava", to procure 10 new two-way trams with a standard length of 32.5 meters, is financed from the European Union funds, from the Operational Programme Integrated Infrastructure (OPII). On 24 May 2022, DPB signed a contract with the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic as the Managing Authority of the Operational Programme Integrated Infrastructure on the provision of a non-repayable financial contribution (NDF) for the purchase of new trams.

Along with the expansion of tram transport, the main transport system in Bratislava, DPB is also modernizing its vehicle fleet. The city's streets will soon be lined with 10 new modern trams with rich equipment, which will increase the transport capacity. On 26 May 2022, Transport Undertaking signed a contract for the purchase of new Škoda trams, which entered into force as amended on 28 May 2022. The project has a planned delivery time of 24 months from the date of the order, with the planned start of the project in May 2022, so DPB has proceeded to order the new trams without delay as a priority on 30 May 2022.

The tender for the purchase of two-way trams was issued on 8.2.2021, with the subject of the contract being the manufacture, delivery, and approval for the operation of 10 new low-floor two-way trams with a length of up to 32.5 m for a gauge of 1000 mm, with a capacity of at least 230 passengers with 5 axles. /m2, with a low-floor ratio of at least 85 %.

Two tenders were submitted and the successful tenderer was the group of suppliers ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION a.s. and ŠKODA TRANSTECH Oy with a total price for the subject of the contract of EUR 26 488 000,-. The successful tenderer submitted a tender for the 30T3 tram.

"The new era of public transport modernization continues. After the purchase of new buses, trolleybuses, and one-way trams, the DPB fleet will be strengthened by 10 new two-way low-floor trams, which will not only be more comfortable than the old ones, but they are mainly necessary for further reconstruction of tram radials in the city," said Martin Rybanský, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DPB a.s.

The total eligible expenditure for the implementation of the activities of the project Trams for Bratislava is EUR 27 010 306,37, of which the NDF amounted to EUR 25 659 791,05. DPB's co-financing amounts to EUR 1 350 515,32. The project will be divided into two phases. The first phase will be implemented under the Operational Programme Integrated Infrastructure (OPII), programming period 2014-2020. The second phase will be implemented in the next programming period 2021 - 2027, under the Slovakia Programme (PSK).
