Deutsche Bahn has reached the next milestone in the development of the new generation of high-speed transport in Germany (HGV 3.0). As a result of a call for tenders, DB today commissioned Alstom Transport Deutschland and Siemens Mobility to develop an independent vehicle concept together with DB. In doing so, DB will contribute its expertise as the operator of one of the world's largest high-speed fleets to the development of the new train generation.

Once this concept development has been completed, a further tender is expected to follow in the second half of 2023. It will then include the development, construction, and approval of the new fleet and will be open to other manufacturers.

The new train generation is to be used from the beginning of the 2030s, replacing older ICE 3 trains and expanding the ICE fleet to strongly grow passenger numbers. DB is relying on single-deck trains with a maximum length of 400 meters, speeds of at least 300 km/h, and seating for approximately 950 passengers, which, in addition to passenger comfort, should also set new standards in energy efficiency and technical availability.
