DB Cargo is stepping into the future of rail freight with a cutting-edge system combining artificial intelligence (AI) and high-speed cameras.
DB Cargo's innovative system integrates camera gates equipped with high-speed cameras and advanced lighting. These gates capture real-time images of freight cars as they pass through the yard. The data is then processed by AI, which checks for potential damage and analyzes 15 critical parameters, including weight, brakes, and payload capacity.

A Nationwide Testing Initiative
DB Cargo is rolling out tests of the AI-powered system across Germany, with funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport under the "Freight Rail of the Future" program. As Europe’s largest freight rail operator by car ownership, DB Cargo manages approximately 83,000 wagons. The introduction of AI-driven inspections is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency and set a new benchmark in rail freight management.
