At the end of March, the Hungarian Minister of Innovation and Technology László Palkovics announced that a contract had been signed with NYMWAG CS a.s., under which the Nymburk-based company will set up a railcar manufacturing plant on the site of a former engineering plant in Nagykanizsa, Hungary.
The project involves the construction of a solid modern factory, including a section for research and development. According to the preliminary plan, the Hungarian plant should produce around 1,800 carriages and almost 5,000 railway bogies per year. It is estimated that the investment in this project will exceed HUF 50 billion (around EUR 142 million). Around 1 500 people are expected to find work at the Hungarian Nymwag plant.
Currently, Nymwag is one of the top 3 largest European manufacturers of freight wagons, with an annual production of 1,500 wagons. Wagons produced in Nymburk are already used by leading freight railway companies such as Ermewa, Eurowagon, Wascosa, Touax and others.
