The French shipping company CMA CGM has launched a new rail service connecting the port of Valencia with the city of Murcia in southeastern Spain. The railway will operate in the form of shuttle transport. The railway section is part of the TEN-T Mediterranean corridor.

The new railway section will boost the industrial area in Murcia, which will be commercially connected to China, India, and the USA thanks to CMA CGM. The area around Murcia is mainly known for its agricultural products, such as fruit, vegetables, and nuts. Thanks to the new rail link, CMA CGM will already have 16 rail connections in Spain, where it operates with its rail operator, Continental Rail, founded in 2021.

However, CMA CGM is not the only company interested in increasing rail freight traffic in the port of Valencia. Shipping companies MSC and COSCO have launched a study of a direct connection from the port to the province of Burgos in the north of Spain. The Burgos area is industrially important thanks to companies such as L'Oreal and Bridgestone that have production sites in the area.
