In Poland, a tender was held for the transportation of 1 million tons of coal. Several carriers entered the tender, and ČD Cargo Poland eventually won the contract. According to editorial information, the contract is set to be signed today.

In the current situation, where there has been a decline in all transport across Europe and wagons are parked on sidings, carriers logically have a significant interest in any contract. One of the large tenders now competed in Poland was specifically for the transportation of one million tons of coal from Silesian coal mines to ENEA Elektrownia Połaniec. This amounts to about nine heavy sets per week.

Several major carriers entered the tender, with PKP Cargo, the largest Polish freight carrier, being one of the expected favorites. Other companies that entered the tender include Inter Cargo, Freightliner PL, DB Cargo Polska, Rail Polska, and EP Cargo Polska.

However, the contract was won by ČD Cargo Polska, a subsidiary of the Czech national freight carrier. This represents a significant success for the ČD Cargo group. For PKP Cargo, which is currently not in the best condition, it is another setback.

The tender also specified technical parameters. The total length of the train consignment must not exceed 610 meters including the length of the locomotive. The total weight of the wagons in the train consignment must not exceed 3,700 gross tons. The total length of one wagon is up to 15.80 meters and the total weight of one wagon must not exceed 89 tons, the width of the wagon should be between 3000 and 3104 mm, and the height of the wagon is in the range of 3220 to 3380 mm.
