As part of the expansion in the number of compatible electric locomotives, Czech rail freight carrier ČD Cargo has issued a tender for the ten new machines delivery by the end of March 2024 at the latest. The deadline for bids expires next week.

"In addition to the new tender, we are also in talks to acquire locomotives from the contract with Bombardier (now Alstom), under which the option right to supply additional Traxx locomotives with the package to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Poland and Hungary may be exercised. These are the countries where we are already active today," added Tomáš Tóth, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ČD Cargo.

Apart from the Czech Republic, the locomotives are to be approved for operation in the neighbouring countries, Hungary, Belgium and the Netherlands. In addition, ČD Cargo recently received a license to operate in Croatia, which predicts an increase in international traffic, the percentage of which is currently over 60%.

"Already 62% of all our shipments can be classified as international, i.e. they originate, terminate or merely transit our country. The new locomotives in the ČD Cargo livery must now be seen as a generational renewal of part of our rolling stock and, of course, with the introduction of ETCS, they will also be seen more and more frequently at the head of our trains on corridor lines in the Czech Republic," added Tomáš Tóth.
