01 / 07 / 2021

CARGOUNIT - the largest independent operator of rail vehicle rental in Poland has received another two most advanced locomotives in Europe - Vectron MS from Siemens Mobility. The vehicles will be used by a new operator on the Polish market - Bahnoperator.

Vectrons are the most modern universal locomotives on the European market, with a modular structure, enabling easy adaptation to the requirements of use and the specificity of driving in different countries, and thus comprehensively meeting the needs of most of today's railway carriers. The basic assumption was the efficiency and profitability of performing traction tasks in domestic and cross-border traffic, both passenger and freight in Europe.

In 2019, CARGOUNIT signed a contract for the purchase of 5 multi-system Vectron locomotives with maintenance. The first three vehicles were handed over at the end of March 2021, and three months later, the fleet increased by another 2 units, completing the contract ahead of schedule. The delivered five Vectron MS locomotives will be operated by a new railway company operating on the Polish market - Bahnoperator, dealing with intermodal transport on European markets.

New vehicles have a capacity of 6.4 MW in alternating voltage and 6.0 MW indirect voltage supply and were equipped with the ETCS system compliant with the current specifications (Baseline 3). The locomotives are intended for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, and Bulgaria, while the vehicles from the Vectron platform - as the only modern locomotives in Europe - are already approved for operation in 20 European countries. The delivered locomotives will be serviced by the manufacturer's authorized service

The locomotives were purchased with the support of European funds through the Center for EU Transport Projects and the financing of Siemens Financial Services - a company dealing in financing projects in many industrial sectors and offering financial services

- We are observing the dynamic growth of the intermodal and international transport market with great enthusiasm and we are pleased that with the delivery of another 2 Vectron locomotives we can support the development of this segment of freight transport in Poland. We are very pleased with the rapid development of the scale of our client's business, Bahnoperator, which rented the first three Vectron locomotives from CARGOUNIT in April 2021. The modern Vectron multi-system locomotives manufactured by Siemens Mobility perfectly fit the needs of railway carriers such as Bahnoperator, striving to reduce transport time in international transport and to deliver just-in-time goods for demanding customers - says Łukasz Boroń, President of CARGOUNIT Sp. z o.o.

- Another 2 Vectron locomotives join the Bahnoperator rolling stock park. After the first months of cooperation, we are satisfied with the service provided by CARGOUNIT and Siemens Mobility. As assured by our partners, we receive full service in the daily use of locomotives. Currently, we can devote more attention to our customers and business partners by developing further rail connections between Asia and Europe, providing them with optimal business solutions. The locomotives used by Bahnoperator complete our offer as an international logistics operator. We would like to thank our partner CARGOUNIT for the cooperation so far - says Magdalena Stefaniuk, CEO of Bahnoperator

- For several years, CARGOUNIT has been dynamically developing on the intermodal transport market, not only in Poland but also in other European countries. The delivered Vectron locomotives will help the company in achieving further ambitious goals and strengthen its market position - adds Krzysztof Celiński, President of Siemens Mobility Sp. z o.o.

In Poland, Vectron locomotives were purchased by CARGOUNIT, DB Cargo Polska, PKP CARGO, Lotos Kolej, and Laude Smart Intermodal. Currently, over 50 Vectron locomotives are in the hands of Polish carriers, and many more enter the PKP PLK network from abroad every day. So far, more than 1,000 Vectron locomotives have been sold to over 50 customers in 16 countries across Europe.
