Cargounit got two Vectron MS locomotives and decided to buy the first Siemens Smartron electric locomotives. The Two Vectron MS locomotives received are 6.4 MW AC and 6.0 MW DC and are equipped with the ETCS system that follows the current specifications (Baseline 3). These locomotives will get used across Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, the Netherlands, optionally in Romania and Bulgaria. Vectron platform trains are already getting used in over twenty countries of the EU.
Cargounit has already placed an order for sixteen Vectron locomotives with a scheduled delivery by the end of June. Additional twenty Vectrons are to get delivered in 2023. The firm now expands its fleet with two brand new Smartrons from Siemens Mobility.
The acquisition of two Smartron for the Romanian railroads will enhance Cargounit's role as a rolling stock industry competitor. Cargounit acknowledges the increasing demand for modernized locomotives in Romania and neighboring countries. Romania follows a similar trend as Poland did years ago, and thus Cargounit knows how to meet the Romanian wishes.
Two Smartron locomotives for Cargounit got purchased Romanian market, even though the trains are certified for operations in Germany and Bulgaria. The estimated weight of the locomotives is eighty-three tons, and they have a wheelbase of 1,435 mm. Locomotives have a power of 5.4 MW with a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The completion of the delivery of the vehicles is getting planned for the last trimester of 2022.
