Thanks to this, for the first time in the last 25 years, Moldova will be able to export and import goods through the port of Izmail, located near the mouth of the Danube, reducing congestion in the port of Reni. Also, through this section of the railway line, Ukraine receives an additional export option to Moldova and EU countries.
The Berezino-Basarabsk railway section on the territory of Ukraine was dismantled in 1997. And in 1999, the section between the Rotovo and Rauhivka stations, bypassing Odesa, was closed.
The reconstructed section will be approximately 23 km long, and 1.2 km of the railway will be built on the territory of Moldova.
