LTG Cargo and Ukrainian Railways are enhancing international transportation in a successful test run of a new cargo route between Kaunas and Kyiv. The initiative comes in response to the protracted delays experienced at the Polish-Ukrainian border.

The new rail route saw semi-trailers, originating from the Klaipėda seaport, successfully reaching the Ukrainian capital, promising faster deliveries and more diverse types of cargo, e.g. fertilizers, building materials, food, and beverages, transported between Lithuania and Ukraine. Eglė Šimė, head of LTG Cargo, emphasized the focus on offering efficient transportation solutions between Lithuania and Ukraine, highlighting the goal to significantly reduce transit times compared to road transport.

Vyacheslav Yeromin, a board member of Ukrainian Railways, detailed the logistics involved, indicating that cargo will transition between different rail gauges at the Medyka (Poland)-Mostyska (Ukraine) border, ensuring seamless transportation from Lithuania through Poland and into Ukraine. Currently, LTG Cargo and its partners operate three international routes linking Lithuania and Ukraine, primarily transporting oil and agricultural products. Additionally, at customers' requests, individual cargoes can be routed through the regular Kaunas-Slavkov intermodal path, leveraging the Slavkovo terminal's strategic position as a key Polish broad-gauge hub.
