According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus, under agreements reached between the country and Russia, the latter will provide Belarus with up to 40% discounts on rail transportation on its territory, which should increase the competitiveness of Belarusian exporters in the international market.
The report published following the meeting of the board of the Ministry of Transport of Belarus states that an agreement was reached with Russia to establish discounts from 10% to 40% on rail transportation along the routes of the North-South international transport corridor and in the direction of the port in St. Petersburg. It is noted that within the framework of this corridor, it is planned to ensure the delivery of more than 15 million tons of Belarusian export cargo by 2025.

These are not the first measures taken for this purpose. According to Interfax, the measures taken in 2023 ensured a 115.4% increase in export rail transportation compared to 2022. In particular, about 83% of the increase was due to transportation with Russia, showing an increase of 1.5 times, of which half was transported through Russian ports.
