Since 2008, the Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has replaced the use of the classic paper waybill with an e-frachtbrief@ in many national and bilateral transport operations. The exceptions are customs, accompanying documents, or dangerous goods. Thus, the use of the e-frachtbrief@ saved 34.9 tons of paper in 2021.
This digital solution saves paper and costs and minimizes bureaucratic processes. RCG e-services simplify logistics processes by making them completely paperless, while customers and partners, at the same time, receive real-time information on the status of shipments.
However, the main contribution of such a solution is undoubtedly in support of environmental well-being. In addition to saving paper and wood (approximately 105 tons of wood or 156 spruces, the equivalent of an actual forest the size of a soccer field), about two million liters of water are also saved. By comparison, that amount of water is contained in a 50-meter-wide, 20-meter-deep pool. The RCG also saved about 187 kWh of energy, the equivalent of 187 washing machine cycles.
