Rail Cargo Group, a member of the ÖBB Group, is introducing a new intermodal connection between Vienna and Lodz in Poland from 14 April 2021. The connection is a part of the TransNET intermodal network and is called TransFER.
"We are expanding our network and with our new TransFER connection, we are introducing intermodal non-stop connection between Vienna and Lodz from 14 April 2021 with two round-trip rides per week" states a press release from the Austrian flag freight carrier. With the new TransFER Vienna–Lodz, the company guarantees not only more efficient transport solutions for intermodal shipments between Austria and Poland, but also direct connections to the Vienna South terminal - one of the most important transport hubs in eastern Austria. This new offer to Poland, as a part of the Rail Cargo Group's powerful network, also opens links to the most important economic centres of Europe such as Milan and Istanbul, to southern ports, CIS countries and to China.
The expansion of this network is a logical step from the point of view of the carrier that responds to the demand for a higher intermodality of freight transport in this session and thus opens up new business opportunities. The aim is to increase the efficiency, volume and speed of transported shipments, both full-length and piece-by-piece. In particular, the new connection will provide carriers with the reliability and the speed of delivery in connection to other means of transport, transport hubs and transit points. The infrastructure related to this new route and the requirements of modern intermodal transport are also fully prepared and dimensioned for the expected increasing demand for transport in this session.
