The network expansion by ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) with the new intermodal TransFER is now enabling high-frequency connections to the Mediterranean ports of Genoa and La Spezia as well as Rotterdam and Antwerp in the Netherlands and in Belgium.
RCG has an ally on this and that is Swissterminal. Besides providing efficient and sustainable freight transport between Wolfurt in western Austria and the Swiss terminal in Frenkendorf the goal is also to connect other major European ports.
The TransFER operates with three weekly round trips. Between Wolfurt-Frenkendorf it is especially suitable for maritime landing units in 20-foot and 40-foot containers. In Frenkendorf, RCG is handling the onward transport with partners and customized transport solutions are offered to and from the most famous port in Italy, Genoa, and the port La Spezia, both on the Ligurian Sea. Customized transport solutions are also offered to the two largest European ports, the largest European port in Rotterdam and the second largest European port in Antwerp. The TransFER Wolfurt‑Rotterdam will be continually offered several times a week as a direct connection.
