Alstom has signed a significant contract with Mercitalia Rail, part of Polo Logistica FS, for the supply of 70 Traxx Universal locomotives for the Italian market.
The contract, valued at over EUR 323 million, includes 12 years of full maintenance services and features an option for an additional 30 locomotives, and an extension of the maintenance services. Some locomotives will be equipped with last-mile technology to enhance their operational versatility.

“We are delighted to announce this significant new contract with Polo Logistica, a longstanding customer and one of Italy’s pioneers in investing in high-power electric locomotives,” said Michele Viale, Managing Director of Alstom in Italy. “Over the years, we have already supplied Polo Logistica with more than 50 such locomotives, all of which are in operation.”
The Traxx Universal platform, known for its high energy efficiency and traction capacity, ensures elevated reliability and availability, with a functional design and reduced maintenance intervention frequencies.

All Traxx Universal locomotives for the Italian market will be manufactured at Alstom's Vado Ligure site, which has over a century of vehicle production experience. This facility is integral to various production stages, including electrical and pneumatic sub-assembly, bogie assembly, vehicle painting, final assembly, and testing.

With over 2,700 Traxx locomotives sold across Europe, including 325 in Italy, Alstom maintains over 2,450 locomotives globally, supporting customers throughout the asset lifecycle.
