LOTOS Kolej, one of the largest freight carriers in Poland, transported the most goods in its history last year. The carrier intends to expand its fleet and has just issued a tender for the lease of 150 wagons. Adapting the transport structure to the current business trends on the market has made it possible to regain and even improve the results before the pandemic. From January to December 2021, LOTOS Kolej achieved a transport capacity of almost 5.6 billion tonne-kilometers - 2.3% more than in the previous record year 2019.

"Last year was a challenging year for the entire rail segment. The speed in 2021 was 21.77 km/h, down by more than 4 km/h compared to the previous year. It has significantly increased the company's operating costs, as it required increased involvement of human and rolling stock resources. In such a volatile and complex market environment, we achieved a good financial result, record shipments, thanks to LOTOS Kolej's experienced crew, able to adapt its current activities to micro and macroeconomic conditions," said Anatol Kupryciek, Chairman of the Board of LOTOS Kolej.

The total increase in the volume of containers transported in the January-December period was 112% compared to 2020. The company's record growth in real traffic is mainly due to increased transportation of refined petroleum products and intermodal transport, which has the most significant prospects for development. Such dynamics were possible thanks to the implementation of a project co-financed by the European Union, within the framework of which the carrier purchased two locomotives and 324 flat cars to transport containers. As a result, the company is carrying out more and more transport with its wagons in line with market requirements.

At the same time, last week, Lotos Kolej launched a tender for the lease of 150 open wagons. Bids in the tender can be submitted until 31 January 2022 on the LOGINTRADE purchasing platform.
