Yesterday, April 3, 2021, two freight trains collided in the afternoon. One of the drivers died on the spot and the other was taken to hospital. One of the trains carried propane-butane gas and the other empty wagons for bulk material. There is already speculation about the causes of the accident.
In the northwest of the Czech Republic near the city of Teplice, a serious accident of two freight trains with a derailment occurred yesterday afternoon. The accident caught the diesel locomotive of Unipetrol, which is also the operator of the train carrying propane-butane. There was no explosion of tanks. There is a lot of speculation about the causes of the accident. The probable cause appears to be a failure of the driver. However, the accident did not have to occur if ETCS was used, which aims to prevent similar accidents caused by human error. The system is implemented on the line, but it was not installed on the locomotive of the UNIPETROL carrier.
