German drive and brake manufacturer Voith has announced a sales partnership with PJM, the rail systems specialist. Voith Group will expand its product portfolio and sales network with the CargoFlex automatic freight coupler and the WaggonTracker digital system.
The WaggonTracker is a self-contained, durable system for tracking the position and fixing the mileage of freight cars. This platform perfectly combines monitoring and automation to create a reliable overall system that is very efficient and cost-effective. It provides process automation and critical fleet information in real-time. In addition to all of the above, WaggonTracker is the basis for PJM's automated brake testing system, which was recently evaluated as the first benchmark system in Europe.
The WaggonTracker will be complemented by the CargoFlex automatic freight coupler and create a complete system solution for automated and digital freight transport. Thus, CargoFlex will help speed up shunting and train formation processes, improve work safety, reduce transportation time and increase travel speeds, which, in turn, will increase the competitiveness of rail freight transportation.
Such decisions were made as part of Voith and PJM's collaboration announced in autumn 2021 to develop digital solutions for the rail freight market focused on automation and automatic couplers.
"Innovation and automation drive rail transport forward, which is urgently needed for climate policy. We are proud to have Voith as an innovative partner with profound industry knowledge and a global sales and service network," Günter Petschnig, CEO of PJM said.
