The local court in Dresden concurred with the decision and appointed a provisional administrator, a move that left the chairman of the works council, Peter Jurke, in shock. The company, under new leadership from the parent company Tatravagonka, now faces a critical three-month period to develop a comprehensive reorganization plan, as stipulated under the protective shield procedure of the insolvency code.
The employees, who have been expressing their anxieties through weekly pickets outside the factory gate, were informed about this significant change. The appointed administrator, Jörg Schädlich, stated the objective to preserve the production of freight wagons and secure the jobs of the existing workforce. Despite the uncertainty, the workforce, along with the works council and IG Metall, has been pushing for talks with Tatravagonka about the plant's future, ever since the Slovakian company took over the Niesky site in 2018 and promised to keep operations running until the end of 2023.
