Trenitalia has entrusted Alstom with the framework agreement for the construction of a further 150 new electric trains for regional transport following a European tender procedure, awarded on the basis of the most economically advantageous offer.

The total economic amount is approximately 910 million euros. The investment made possible by the long-term Service Contracts signed by Trenitalia with the individual Regions.

The new single-deck and medium-capacity trains will be designed and built in the Italian plants of Savigliano, Sesto San Giovanni, and Bologna, where the Jazz and Pop trains are already produced, with significant and positive effects on the employment level in a fundamental moment of relaunch and restart of the country.

The Framework Agreement provides for a guaranteed minimum of 38 trains and confirms Trenitalia's continuous and constant commitment to ensure increasing levels of quality for all regional transport travelers. In fact, in addition to continuing to lower the average age of the fleet, the newly designed trains make it possible to significantly improve the quality of the journey, concretely responding to the needs of people who choose the regional train for their work, study, leisure, and tourism.

The trains, characterized by the most advanced and effective technical solutions, such as ERTMS, video surveillance, and Wi-Fi preparation, comply with all the characteristics of environmental sustainability, being recyclable up to 97% and with a reduction of about 30% in emissions compared to previous trains.

Furthermore, the new trains will be added to the numerous Rock and Pop trains already delivered to the Regions and to the Blues train which, thanks to the possibility of using electric, diesel, and battery traction, will contribute to a further improvement of the quality standards of Italian commuter transport.
