The British Railway Safety Engineers Institution invites candidates to book online test places this October for their industry-recognized railway control technology certificate.

The certificate shall be designed to give candidates who may be new to the railway industry and those with transferable skills from other railways or related industries the opportunity to acquire a recognized basic qualification.

It is also the first stage towards IRSE membership and prequalification for other IRSE professional test modules, which leads to the acquisition of an advanced diploma in railway infrastructure management.

"This is an exciting development for us and the feedback from last year's candidates has been very positive," said Judith Ward, IRSE's chief operating officer and member of the Education and Professional Development Committee. "For almost 100 years, our professional exam has been helping signaling and communication technicians to develop and advance their careers. We hope that the introduction of a new railway management certificate will enable a wide range of entities from many different sectors to acquire recognized qualifications that demonstrate knowledge and provide an excellent starting point for those who want to advance in our field or expand into it from other fields of mechanical engineering or electrical engineering. "

Registration for the course ends on July 31 and the exam is open to non-IRSE members.
