SYSTRA has been awarded another significant contract for the Ostlänken (East Link) project, a major rail development in Sweden aiming to establish new rail mainlines connecting Södertälje, just south of Stockholm, to Linköping. The latest contract focuses on the Kolmården project, a crucial section of the Ostlänken network between Stavsjo and Loddby.

A new important step has been taken in the integration of the Atlas signalling system onboard Alstom’s Traxx locomotive platform.
In collaboration with their long-standing partner, COWI, SYSTRA will be responsible for designing 15 kilometres of double-track railway, including an impressive 8 kilometres of tunnel, making it the second longest railway tunnel in the country.

SYSTRA's engagement with the Ostlänken project dates back to 2015 when they began working with Trafikverket, Sweden's transport administration. Public consultation has been a key aspect of the project, with authorities striving to ensure community acceptance. In line with this, SYSTRA and COWI have utilized 3D modelling techniques to develop a virtual reality film showcasing the future rail line. Construction for the Ostlänken project is scheduled to commence in 2025.
