Europe’s rail freight sector is under growing pressure, and leadership changes are underway. Streem and Ermewa have announced a strategic reshuffle aimed at strengthening competitiveness and long-term development.

Streem and its subsidiary Ermewa, one of Europe’s leading freight railcar lessors, are entering the next phase of their corporate development. Peter Reinshagen is moving to Streem as Business Development Director. As part of a long-term succession plan, Cyrille Guyon is taking over the position of Managing Director of Ermewa as of February 18, 2026. At the same time, Bernhard Hoffmann is joining Ermewa’s Executive Management as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).

Leadership Transition at a Critical Moment for Rail Freight

European rail freight is currently facing significant challenges, ranging from infrastructure constraints and complex regulatory frameworks to rising cost pressures. At the same time, the decarbonation of supply chains remains a key priority for businesses and policymakers across Europe. Against this backdrop, Peter Reinshagen will assume responsibility within Streem for sector-related initiatives and broader development topics in European rail freight.

Peter Reinshagen, Managing Director of Ermewa since July 2016, has played a key role in shaping the company’s development over the past years. Under his leadership, Ermewa significantly strengthened its market position, expanded its fleet to more than 50,000 railcars and further developed its portfolio.

Peter Reinshagen stated: "Ermewa has consistently invested in growth, modernization and market positioning in recent years. I now look forward to contributing my experience to initiatives that strengthen the competitiveness and long-term sustainability of rail freight in Europe. The succession has been carefully prepared, and I am handing over responsibility to highly experienced leadership."

Internal Appointments to Ensure Continuity and Growth

With Cyrille Guyon, an experienced leader from within the organization moves to the top of the company. Having joined Ermewa in 2010 and currently serving as Deputy Managing Director, he has significantly contributed to Ermewa’s strategic development and provided key impulses for growth and market expansion.

Cyrille Guyon says: "Ermewa benefits from a strong market position, a modern fleet and a highly committed European team. We will continue to build on these strengths. Our priorities remain focused on customer proximity, operational excellence and sustainable growth. In a demanding market environment, reliability is a key success factor, both internally and externally."

Meanwhile, Bernhard Hoffmann, who has served as Head of Sales DACH and Segment Manager Intermodal at Ermewa since March 2022, assumes the role of Chief Commercial Officer. In recent years, he has successfully expanded the business in the German-speaking markets and strengthened the intermodal segment. He will now further develop the European sales and unlock additional growth opportunities.

"This year, we proudly celebrate 70 years of expertise in rail freight and strengthen our ability to shape the future. With this new allocation of responsibilities, we combine continuity with strategic development. Peter Reinshagen will bring his industry expertise to the Group level and drive forward key future topics in European rail freight. At the same time, by appointing Cyrille Guyon and Bernhard Hoffmann from within our own leadership team, we ensure expertise, stability and clear accountability. In their new roles, they will reaffirm the Group’s daily commitment to its customers and drive the developments of the services we provide to them," says Emmanuel Cheremetinski, CEO of Streem.
