Hungary's state-owned railway operator MÁV-START has announced the successful completion of one of its largest tenders, the purchase of 115 new electric locomotives. Following the tender, the best offer was made by Siemens Mobility, specifically its Hungarian subsidiary Siemens Mobility Kft. with the Austrian subsidiary Siemens Mobility Austria GmbH. The winner will sign a framework contract.
Thanks to this tender, MÁV-START will be able to renew its fleet. A total of 115 locomotives, 90 bi-system and 25 tri-system electric locomotives are expected to be delivered. The new high-performance locomotives will mainly replace the ageing V43 series electric locomotives with a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The new rolling stock should reach speeds of up to 200 km/h and be more energy-efficient. The purchased locomotives will be used in Hungary mainly for IC services and the extension of IC+ services.
