SAGASTA Teams Up with VRT CZ for High-Speed Rail Expansion
VRT CZ is more than just a railway modernization project—it’s about connecting key cities with fast trains, reducing travel time, and stimulating regional growth. "The Czech high-speed rail network will serve as a vital link between Central European countries, connecting Germany and Austria. If you look at a map, the fastest route from Berlin to Vienna runs through Prague. Thanks to high-speed rail, the Berlin–Vienna journey could take just four hours, while both the Prague–Berlin and Prague–Vienna routes would be reduced to only two hours. This project is primarily for the people of the Czech Republic. When looking at the map, you can clearly see how the new lines will cover the entire country," said Jiří Merta, Deputy Technical Director of the High-Speed Rail Construction Administration, in an earlier interview with RAILTARGET.
Beyond reducing travel times, high-speed rail will enhance regional connectivity and open new economic opportunities. The new lines will attract investors, potentially reshaping the Czech economy by making it easier for people to commute for work or education. High-speed trains will also compete with air travel, which continues to grow in popularity. However, unlike airplanes, high-speed rail remains one of the most environmentally friendly transport options available today.
