VTG Rail Logistic Deutschland and its subsidiary Retrack GmbH have entered into an agreement with European Loc Pool (ELP). This is a long-term leasing contract for up to four EuroDual locomotives.
The first two locomotives, named Lena and Nina, have already passed successful testing, which took place at the beginning of February. Within the take over there was a technical inspection and a test drive which took place both in electric and diesel drive mode.
These hybrid locomotives have a power of 2.8 MW in diesel mode and 6 MW in electric mode. This power output is adequate for use in heavy freight trains. The locomotives have increased performance thanks to a combination of high traction and optimized energy consumption. Compared to existing electric locomotives, these new locomotives offer 30 % more power.
The great advantage of hybrid locomotives is greater environmental friendliness thanks to reduced CO2 emissions. These locomotives meet both the safety requirements of TSI certification and European emission limits.
"We look forward to the delivery and use of the new EuroDual in our pan-European rail services. With the first 6-axle hybrid locomotives, we can offer our customers an even stronger range and offer them the latest technological standards in railway logistics,” Remco van Staaijeren, the CEO of Retrack, told the media.
The importance of the cooperation between VTG Rail Logistic / Retrack and the ELP is also evidenced by the fact that the CEOs of both companies were personally present at the handover of the locomotives – Mr. Gunther J. Ferk on behalf of VTG/Retrack, and Mr. Willem Goosen on behalf of European Loc Pool.
