RAILPOOL Group, one of Europe’s leading rail vehicle leasing companies, launches into the Race to Zero initiative as the first organization within the rail industry with approved short- and long-term science-based targets by the Paris Agreement.

The UN-backed global campaign “Race to Zero” aims to keep global warming below 1.5°C, uniting governments, businesses, and organizations to work towards achieving a net zero emissions goal by 2050.

Ingo Wurzer, CFO of RAILPOOL, says: “RAILPOOL has proudly entered this initiative, solidifying our ambitions as a sustainability leader on top of our participation in independent GRESB and EcoVadis ratings. Taking rigorous and immediate action to reduce our emissions by 42% until 2030, we have initiated an achievable milestone plan for our entire organization across Europe. This includes major investments such as the new construction of a workshop in Hamburg Billbrook with a strong focus on sustainability.”

Planned activities comprise the switch to renewable energy, the production of own energy through the installation of a photovoltaic system, and the reduction of gas heating throughout all RAILPOOL locations across Europe. The ongoing expansion of RAILPOOLs fleet, providing sustainable electric and bi-mode locomotives to freight and passenger transport companies will further advance the overall transition in the transport sector.
