ProRail covers 7,000 kilometers of track, building and managing train stations and regulating train traffic and there are 1.4 million journeys every working day. ProRail intends to make the Dutch railways safer and more sustainable and for that reason, it hired Thales to implement its ERTMS Central Safety System.
From the €420 million budget significant part is dedicated to innovation and Thales will have time to do so as the maximum duration of the contract is 37 years. It is to replace the current system with the Central Safety System (CSS). Choosing CSS is helping with digitalization as it controls the railway’s security centrally from the Data Centres of ProRail.
“Contributing to a safer world is at the heart of our business. We are therefore proud that we are achieving safer and more sustainable train transport with our Central Safety System. Being a part of Thales, we are doing similar projects across Europe, and it is great to work together to build a European rail network for goods and passengers,” Gerben Edelijn, CEO Thales Nederland.
