PKP Intercity has initiated the largest rolling stock procurement in its history, with a tender for 300 new passenger wagons and an option for an additional 150.

The bid, which is part of the carrier's ambitious "PKP Intercity - Kolej Dużych Inwestycji" investment strategy, has attracted proposals from two domestic manufacturers: H.Cegielski Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych and Newag. With a project budget set at PLN 2,844 million (approx. PLN 4,266 million with the option), the contract stipulates delivery within 96 months, paving the way for an entirely new or modernized fleet by 2030. The current phase of the tender involves a meticulous review of the bids to ensure compliance with the specified tender requirements.

The procurement encompasses a variety of wagon types designed to elevate the passenger experience and increase operational flexibility. The order includes 1st and 2nd class compartment carriages, 2nd class carriages with bicycle transport capacity, restaurant cars, and day and night carriages for comfortable overnight journeys. All new units will be capable of speeds up to 200 km/h and are expected to serve both domestic lines and international routes to neighboring countries. Upon exercising the option for additional wagons, PKP Intercity will significantly boost its capacity, enabling the launch of its new 'Medium' category of connections that aim to link major urban centers and smaller towns, including international destinations.

The forthcoming wagons are poised to redefine rail travel standards in Poland, boasting an innovative design that merges aesthetic appeal with functional advancement. PKP Intercity's vision for these new wagons includes a more inviting and comfortable interior with atmospheric lighting, WiFi access, personal lighting, power outlets, USB ports, advanced air conditioning, and a comprehensive passenger information system.

Emphasizing passenger safety, the wagons will be equipped with a full-span fire detection system and video surveillance. Additionally, they will feature an inventive interior layout offering increased luggage space, a dedicated area for parents and children, and an upgraded dining experience.
