The Management Board of PKP CARGO S.A. and Trade Union Organisations operating within the company have urgently appealed to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, seeking immediate compensation for the significant expenses incurred during the priority transport of 4.5 million tonnes of coal.

This massive logistical effort, executed under the directives known as the 'Coal Decision' ('Decyzję Węglową') issued by the Prime Minister on 25 July 2022 and 6 October 2022, has imposed considerable financial issues on PKP CARGO. In the formal letter addressed to Prime Minister Tusk, PKP CARGO detailed the severe impact these operations have had on their financial stability. "We request that all legal and organizational actions be taken, which will result in the payment of the compensation due to the Company," the letter states.

PKP CARGO played a crucial role in distributing coal across the country to meet national energy needs. These operations were essential during a period of high demand but came with substantial costs that have now become a major concern for the company. Therefore, the management and union representatives have called for swift government action to address this financial burden. They argue that the compensation is essential for PKP CARGO to continue its operations without further financial stress.

Additionally, PKP CARGO’s Management Board plans to send a detailed breakdown of the incurred costs and losses to the Minister of State Assets aiming to clarify the financial impact of the coal transport operations and expedite the compensation process. PKP CARGO’s leadership and union representatives are united in their call for government support, stating that resolving this issue is crucial for the company’s future.
