Immediately after the official presentation of the Pesa hydrogen locomotive at the 14th international railway fair TRAKO, the PKN ORLEN Group stated that as part of the ORLEN2030 strategy, it plans to purchase this innovative vehicle.
''In line with our strategy, we invest in modern and clean technologies that bring us concrete business benefits while contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal. Hydrogen is a technology whose potential we also want to use in rail transport. Our company ORLEN Koltrans, which we are gradually modernizing, increases its market share every year. The acquisition of the first such locomotive in Poland is a step towards the widespread use of zero-emission hydrogen fuel in rail transport', says Daniel Obajtek, CEO of PKN ORLEN.
The group is also developing the Hydrogen Eagle investment program, which includes the construction of hydrogen bases in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia for transport powered by renewable energy sources and innovative equipment converting municipal waste into hydrogen.
Hydrogen Eagle has successfully passed the verification phase by the Ministry of Development, Labour, and Technology in the framework of the competition for projects in the field of hydrogen technologies and systems under the IPCEI mechanism and are currently in the notification phase in support of the EU Commission.
