Cargounit and Pesa signed a contract for the supply of 10 Gama Marathon locomotives equipped with auxiliary last-mile engines expected to be delivered by the end of 2023.

“We chose Pesa commuter module because they fit perfectly to the needs of our clients. One locomotive, which can drive trains under electric traction, and then, using the same locomotive to perform shunting activities in ports or terminals, is a solution that not only reduces costs but also saves time and increases the efficiency of transport,“ stated Łukasz Boroń, the President of Cargounit.

In addition, Pesa was Cargounit’s choice for acquiring the locomotives because of their speed of delivery, as the first locomotive is ready to be delivered in February 2023, and the last one is expected to be brought in December 2023.

The four-axle electric locomotives are fitted with a co-driving module thanks to which the operation of the lines can be both electrified and non-electrified.

This additional drive allows driving a freight train that weighs 3,200 tons on a hill of almost 7 per mills. The next benefit of this incredible power enables movement on the track without electric traction with a minimum range of 42 km.

In case of a sudden power outage, the locomotive is also used in emergencies as it allows the train to be brought to its destination.

“We used a new, ecological internal combustion engine, at the same time increasing the power of the aggregate in relation to our previous projects,” said Piotr Rościszewski, the Sales Manager of the Locomotive and Wagon Market at Pesa Bydgoszcz.
