A short while ago, Transport Minister Martin Kupka and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ČD Miroslav Zámečník announced the name of the new head of the national carrier. The winner of the tender was Michal Krapinec. He will take up the post of CEO on April 4th.
According to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Miroslav Zámečník, a total of 11 candidates applied for the selection procedure. Five selected candidates who met all the requirements were interviewed in person. Based on this, the selection was narrowed down to three candidates, from which the winner of the tender, Michal Krapinec, was selected.
Minister Kupka and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, economist Zámečník, stressed that the primary role of the new ČD boss would be negotiations with rating agencies, which are expected to take place at the end of April. Krapinec said at the press conference that he would do everything possible to make ČD the first choice of customers, not the only choice. He also said he sees his mission as difficult, not suicidal. He intends to focus primarily on the quality of services provided.
Michal Krapinec is the current Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors of ČD Telematika, a subsidiary of ČD, which is of absolutely strategic importance. ČD Telematika is the company that owns the communication infrastructure. It consists mainly of fiber optic cables. This infrastructure is crucial for the functioning of the Czech Republic, and its use goes far beyond the interests of ČD.
Among other things, Krapinec has many years of experience in ČD, ČD Cargo, and ČD Logistic. At ČD, he served as Director of the Project Office, Director of the Strategy and Asset Management Department, and Director of the Economics and Informatics Office. At ČD Cargo, he dealt with the management and administration of property holdings and was also Secretary of the Board of Directors. He was a member of the ČD Logistic Board of Directors for two years.
