RIA North has announced that Lorna McDonald has been appointed Vice Chair of the group. She is currently Head of Sales - Commuter at rolling stock manufacturer Hitachi Rail, which has invested in Northern rail manufacturing and maintenance, with its fleets connecting the North’s major cities, and beyond.

Lorna has over a decade of rail experience and is a member of Women in Rail. As Head of Commuter, she works across the industry with multiple stakeholders including TOC’s, ROSCO’s, and Hitachi Rail’s extensive supply chain. Recognizing the growth and success of the rail industry coming from its people, Lorna is committed to nurturing existing relationships whilst building new ones.

As Vice Chair Lorna will work with RIA North Chair Dave Maddison to set the strategic direction and work program for the group going forward.

RIA North Vice Chair Lorna McDonald said:

“Honoured to be appointed Vice Chair of the RIA North Leadership Group. RIA North already plays an influential role shaping the future of the rail industry across the North so taking on the role of Vice Chair is both timely and exciting.

Working for a major employer and investor in the North, I have seen first-hand the power of improved rail connectivity can deliver, including in places like my hometown of Hull. This is why I am excited to work with RIA North to advocate for northern projects and investment, like Northern Powerhouse Rail.

RIA North has such a vital role bringing Transport for the North, Metro Mayors, Network Rail, and the supply chain together to ensure we make the strongest case possible for transforming the North”.

Dave Maddison, Chair of RIA North said:

“It is great news that Lorna is to be our new Vice-Chair. The breadth of her experience and skills will boost the wider leadership group in leading and developing RIA North. I look forward to working with her.

“I’m encouraged that RIA North continues to build momentum as an organization and delighted that Lorna has joined us as Vice Chair at this time. We are committed to making the case for why rail investment delivers value for the people of the North and supports our Net Zero ambitions.”
