Italy has confirmed an order for the Lombardy region. FNM Group's Ferrovienord ordered another 20 Coradia Stream EMU (electric multiple-units) locomotives from Alstom for June 2023. The new locomotives will be used on the Milano-Sondrio-Tirano route.
The order was announced on 15th of April, worth €125 millions. As part of the November 2019 framework agreement, the parties agreed on the original 31 locomotives with the possibility of purchasing another 30. The first trains left in July 2020.
The locomotive reaches 160 km/h, with a medium capacity of 3kv. It contains 4 wagons with 263 seats and a capacity of 255 per stand. It offers LED lighting and electrical outlets.
The operator named the Donizietti units after the 19th-century composer Gaetan Donizetti, who was born in Bergamo. Similar trains operated by Trenitalia are marked 'Pop'.
Savigliano is developing, manufacturing and certifying projects, with traction systems coming from Sesto San Giovanni and on-board signalling systems from Bologna.
Alstom has run 54 regional trains to Lombardy in the last 10 years. Michele Viale, Managing Director added: "The next generation of Coradia Stream represents the best solution to meet the needs in our regions for passengers and operators."
