The Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid has signed a cooperation agreement with LTG Infra and RB Rail, marking a significant step in the electrification of the Rail Baltica project.

Signed on January 11, 2024, the agreement focuses on preparing the electricity transmission network for connecting to Rail Baltica's traction substations, making it crucial for the electrification of Rail Baltica, a key European railway line spanning 870 km across the Baltics, with significant segments in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Litgrid, emphasizes the readiness of his organization to ensure the successful implementation of Rail Baltica. "We can already start planning our resources and making plans so that when the electrification implementation phase starts, we will be ready to promptly approve the prepared technical designs of the structures, enter into the connection agreements, select the contractors for the installation and conversion works and other important steps," says Masiulis.

According to Irmantas Butkauskas, Head of RB Rail's Lithuanian branch, and Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra, the agreement confirms the division of works and responsibilities and is crucial for securing further funding for Rail Baltica's electrification, setting the foundation for efficient project execution, ensuring timely financing and coordinated preparations for the project's next major phase while construction continues.
