The agreement outlines areas of cooperation related to the production of electric locomotives, components, transfer of technology, and maintenance capability. This includes an investment of at least €50 million by Alstom into new bogie and electrical cabinet workshops, service centers, and maintenance depots.
Alstom is committed to having a long-term partnership with Kazakhstan and has increased local content in its locomotives from 4% to 31% because of a €126 million investment to establish the existing manufacturing capability. With this agreement, Alstom commits to growing that capability further and aims to reach 39% local content by 2025.
“I am optimistic about Alstom’s partnership with Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan’s geographical location, attractive climate for foreign direct investments, and growing demand for mobility solutions creates the right environment for Kazakhstan to not only be a transit hub in the region but also position itself as a competitive industrial base,” said Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Chairman and CEO of Alstom.
