Russians and Belarusians will no longer be allowed to participate in the International Union of Railways, the General Assembly ratified the corresponding decision.

In particular, representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia emphasize that after the outbreak of a full-scale war, one of the directions of the carrier's work was to ensure the suspension of railway companies from Russia and Belarus from participating in all activities of the Regional European Assembly and the General Assembly of the International Union of Railways (UIC).

"The UIC, whose members are more than 200 world railway companies, was the first international organization, which by the decision of the Chairman of the UIC and the Director General on March 4, 2022, at the request of Ukrzaliznytsia suspended the membership of railway companies of Russia and Belarus," states the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.

The preliminary decision had to be ratified by the General Assembly: therefore, this week the delegation of Ukrzaliznytsia again took part in the meetings of the Regional European Assembly and the General Assembly of the International Union of Railways to defend the final decision on suspension.

"Even though Russia is an important financial sponsor of the organization and despite considerable pressure from the representatives of China, India, Mongolia, Iran, Armenia and Kazakhstan, the decision on the final suspension was made. "72% of the UIC participants voted in favour," the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia noted.

It is noted that this decision would not have been possible without the direct assistance of international partners – railways of Asia, Europe and America, which also confirmed their promises to provide their expertise and assistance to Ukrzaliznytsia in the post-war restoration of infrastructure. Ukrzaliznytsia continues to ensure the implementation of the state policy of Ukraine at all levels, despite the obstacles.
