Innofreight has introduced the WireStanchions system set to revolutionize the way wire coils are transported between plants, marking a significant advancement in freight transportation,
This system is characterized by its stacked loading capability and streamlined load-securing process, which marks a substantial improvement in transport efficiency. According to Innofreight, it allows each wagon to carry 40 to 50 percent more payload compared to traditional methods, where wire bundles are transported in a single layer requiring longer trains. A notable implementation of this system is seen in the 2×45 ft InnoWaggon, which can transport as many as 38 wire coil bundles, weighing a total of 141 tons.
Since August 2023, voestalpine has been utilizing 15 2×45 ft InnoWaggons equipped with the WireStanchions system for inter-plant transportation. This project demonstrates the capacity to handle around 2,000 truck transports annually, while these wire coils are being transported from the wire rod mill in St. Peter-Freienstein, Austria, to the wire drawing plant in Finsterwalde, Germany, covering a distance of approximately 770 km.
The innovative WireStanchions system facilitates quicker and safer unloading processes while reducing the need for shunting. The wagons, employed for the safe and efficient transport of these coils, are operated by DB Cargo.
