The Greenbrier Companies, a U.S. transportation company, says the war in Ukraine more than doubled its fiscal second-quarter earnings.
"The tragedy in Ukraine and its impact on commodity prices are likely to have far-reaching consequences to the global railcar industry, including growth in rail freight in many sectors," said William A Furman, executive chairman of wagon manufacturer The Greenbrier Companies.
"The commodity markets are traditionally leading indicators for expansion in rail freight," Furman commented. "We expect rising global commodity prices and shifting trade patterns to elevate railcar demand in North America and Brazil, and elsewhere in the world."
Today, Greenbrier operates on four continents and regularly "assesses the effect of geopolitical developments, and actively working to support the safety and security of our employees and the cybersecurity of our information and data infrastructure," according to The Greenbrier Companies executive chairman.
