On November 8, Krzysztof Mamiński, President of PKP S.A., and Andrzej Olszewski, member of the board of PKP S.A., held a meeting with Māris Kleinbergs, President of Latvijas dzelzceļš (Latvian Railways), in Riga.

During the meeting, the heads of the Polish and Latvian railways discussed potential cooperation in the transportation of coal from the port of Riga to Poland, as well as prospects for logistics cooperation.

Mr. Mamiński emphasized that the Polish State Railways is interested in developing cargo transport through Latvian ports and is seeking opportunities to increase cargo volumes. He further expressed his appreciation for the ability of Latvian partners to provide more cargo transport and his interest in expanding the types of cargo transported. He viewed this as a new transport channel to connect Europe.

Mr. Kleinbergs also expressed his support for the cooperation between the two railway companies, stating that Latvijas dzelzceļš is prepared to handle higher freight volumes. He did not foresee any difficulty in increasing volumes, given the current workload of the ports.

Moreover, Latvian Railways revealed its current efforts in acquiring Chinese container cargo. The transportation of such cargo is believed to open up new prospects for cooperation with Polish partners. PKP S.A. and Latvijas dzelzceļš view this direction of cooperation as very promising.
