After two decades on the shop floor and in technical roles, Adam Zielewski has stepped up as the new Managing Director of GATX Rail Europe’s Ostróda in-house workshop in Poland.

In their press release, GATX Rail Europe said Zielewski’s appointment caps a progression that started in 2004, when he joined as a production manager overseeing three departments. He later moved into railcar maintenance—first as an expert contributor, then as team leader—and since 2021 he has served as Technical Implementation Manager East. The company framed the move as the natural next step for a leader steeped in operations and continuous improvement.

Why Ostróda Matters

The Ostróda site plays a crucial role in GATX’s Central and Eastern European maintenance network. According to the company, the facility handles around 2,000 railcar revisions and 8,000 planned wheelset repairs a year, showing the scale, throughput and flexibility the in-house model provides. Management expects Zielewski to deepen process discipline while accelerating turnaround and modernisation programmes as fleet demands grow.

"Under Adam’s leadership, the workshop will further strengthen its role as a cornerstone of GATX’s service excellence," says Johann Feindert, CEO at GATX Rail Europe. "GATX’s in-house workshop in Ostróda handles around 2,000 railcar revisions and 8,000 planned wheelset repairs per year. These figures highlight the scale and flexibility that the in-house workshop provides."

Zielewski positioned the mission simply: maintain momentum and raise the bar for partners that rely on the site for safety-critical work. With a modernised facility, a seasoned team and a rail-served location, he said the workshop is set to push further on maintenance quality, repair scope and targeted upgrades.

"My goal is to make our workshop in Ostróda the best repair facility for all of our business partners," says Adam Zielewski. "With a modern facility, a strong team spirit, and a strategic location, the in-house workshop is well positioned to continue delivering top-class services in maintenance, repair, and modernization."
