Railway companies in Bulgaria are threatened to cease operations in the coming days. The Association of Railway Transport Enterprises, an organization that unites Bulgarian railway carriers, is alarmed about this.
All railway carriers in the country are at risk of shutting down. The reason is the high prices of electricity and the lack of predictability in the energy market.
The Association of Railway Transport Enterprises has sent an official letter warning Prime Minister Stefan Yanev, Transport Minister Georgi Todorov, and Energy Minister Andrei Zhivkov of the impending crisis. The letter was also sent to the chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission Ivan Ivanov and to the chairman of the Energy and Climate Committee of the 46th National Assembly Ivan Hinovski.
The Association emphasizes that the lack of measures by the state regarding energy security threatens the sector and the jobs of thousands of employees.
They warn that if the state does not take measures for adequate electricity prices for rail transport, carriers will go bankrupt.
