PKP Intercity has experienced a systematic increase in passenger attendance as summer draws to a close.

July 2022 marked another record-breaking month for PKP Intercity's transport results. The company's offer has generated almost twice as much interest as in 2021, with more than 32 million people choosing PKP Intercity trains between January and July this year. This figure represents an increase of 90% compared to the same period in 2021 and is also 16% higher than during the same period of the record-breaking year of 2019.

To provide as many seats on the trains as possible, PKP Intercity reinforced 710 trains with 1049 carriages from July 1 to 31. The carrier has been intensively monitoring attendance and interest and reinforcing trains with additional carriages wherever possible.

Marek Chraniuk, CEO of PKP Intercity, said, "Such results make us happy - the daily work of the whole company gives results and satisfaction. Poles are eagerly returning to the railways after a period of pandemic austerity - they are travelling more by train and contributing to CO2 emissions reduction. The transport records also prove the rightness of intensive investment in the railway, which must be prepared to handle an increasing number of passengers."

The upward trend was influenced by the new promotional offer, Taniej z Bliskimi (Cheap with Friends), which was introduced at the beginning of July and was met with great interest from travellers. With this offer, travellers in groups of two to six people on IC and TLK trains receive a 30% discount on all tickets. Importantly, this promotion is combined with statutory discounts, so people with e.g., a student discount can benefit from a heavily reduced fare. The Cheap with Relatives offer, which was purchased by nearly one million travellers in July alone, has made the carrier's offer more competitive with group car journeys, where the cost of petrol is spread among travellers.

Tomasz Gontarz, Member of the PKP Intercity Management Board, said, "We are responding to the needs of our passengers. Until recently, it was more cost-effective to travel by car for four people than to take an economy category train. With the introduction of the 'Taniej z Bliskimi' offer, we have made our contribution to the government's anti-inflationary shield, providing Poles with a competitive, comfortable, and environmentally friendly means of transport for their summer holidays."
