With 79 out of 100 points in the ESG sustainability rating, RCG improves by 2 points compared to the previous year and receives the rating “Very Good” again. The assessment indicators, the so-called ESG performance, cover the areas of Environment, Social matters and Governance. In comprehensive evaluation stages, these areas and all measures within the company are explored, for example regarding CO2 reduction or recycling activities – products and services, as well as working conditions, equal opportunities and sustainable procurement, are also screened. In addition to Rail Cargo Group, the ÖBB companies Personenverkehr (Personal Transport), Produktion (Production), Train Tech and Postbus were also assessed.

The ESG performance of RCG
The sustainability performance of RCG is rated “Very Good” in all ESG areas and thus generally. The business model, namely the transport of goods by rail including associated services, was rated as contributing positively to sustainability overall. In the area of Environment, RCG's certified environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 and the purchase of electricity in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic from 100 % green traction current were among the factors that scored well. In the Social area, topics such as opportunities for further training, health management and the promotion of equal opportunities stand out in particular. Measures relating compliance, operational safety, stakeholder engagement and supply chain management stand out in the area of Governance.
