In an attempt to influence European transport policy, the International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport (UIRR) has collaborated with the European Rail Freight Association (ERFA) and national associations Die Güterbahnen in Germany and RailGood in the Netherlands.
Together, they have authored a paper aimed at the upcoming Council of Transport Ministers of the European Union. This document emphasizes the critical role of rail freight in achieving sustainable transport solutions and is timed to coincide with this weekend's European Parliament elections, targeting the competing political groups.

Rail enthusiasts and history buffs are in for a treat at this year's Rail Business Days fair in Ostrava.
The paper argues for the European economy's growth to be anchored in maximizing resource efficiency across labor, energy, infrastructure, and environmental performance. It claims that door-to-door Combined Transport significantly outperforms traditional road transport in these key areas.
The associations are also advocating for a regulatory and infrastructure framework that supports the specific needs of intermodal trains, including sufficient track capacity of the required quality. They stress that the regulatory approach should be mode-neutral, promoting intermodality, harmonization, and uniformity across the European network.
