Alstom has announced a EUR 63 million investment plan for Italy over 2024-2026 to enhance economic growth and technological innovation and promote environmental sustainability.

The investment will involve several key projects across the country, including expansions and upgrades at production and maintenance facilities in Savigliano, Vado Ligure, Nola, and Bologna. Among the planned projects, the Savigliano site will get the construction of new buildings for testing hydrogen and high-speed trains, along with new production lines for regional trains. In Vado Ligure, the facility will expand to increase its capacity for maintaining regional trains, while a new paint booth will be constructed at Nola to serve high-speed trains. Additionally, solar panel parks will be developed at some of Alstom’s Italian locations, reflecting the company’s dedication to sustainability.

Michele Viale, Managing Director of Alstom Italy, said, "Alstom continues to be a strategic partner for the sustainable development of rail transport and the Italian economy. With a contribution to the GDP of more than €1.019 billion and supporting over 14,000 jobs, Alstom is accelerating employment and development across the country."

Vice President of the 9th Committee on Industry and the Senate of the Republic, Giorgio Maria Bergesio, added, "The results show how commitment to digital innovation and sustainability can drive employment and growth for the country within the European context." He further stressed the government’s support for enhancing Italy’s industrial and mobility sectors.

Alstom’s investment will boost Italy’s rail infrastructure and its sustainability efforts. The company plans to operate all national sites on 100% renewable energy and aims to achieve environmental neutrality by 2050.
