Ermewa took centre stage at Transport Logistic 2025 in Munich, using the high-profile event to announce not only a major fleet milestone but also unveil its latest innovation in rail freight.

The company showcased its 50,000th wagon and introduced a fully automated freight car for palletised goods, reinforcing its leadership in the push toward sustainable and efficient transport solutions across Europe.

Ermewa at Transport Logistic 2025: Milestones and Momentum

"Transport Logistic is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate our progress and ambitions," said Peter Reinshagen, CEO of Ermewa, during the company’s presentation. According to Ermewa, the newly unveiled wagon isn’t just a product—it’s a statement of intent. The company aims to drive Europe’s transition toward decarbonised, rail-based logistics, aligning its strategy with EU climate goals.

The event also served as the platform for celebrating a historic milestone: the addition of Ermewa’s 50,000th freight wagon, a Laaers car carrier, which signifies the company’s deepening engagement in the automotive segment—a market added to its portfolio in 2024.

"With our 50,000 wagons, we offer one of the broadest portfolios in the sector," Reinshagen explained. "Our goal is to be the first choice for efficient, sustainable, and forward-looking freight solutions." According to Ermewa, its portfolio now includes 120 wagon types across eight critical logistics segments: aggregates, automotive, chemicals, grain, energy, intermodal, palletised goods, and steel.

A Next-Generation Wagon: Faster, Smarter, Greener

Ermewa showcased a demo model of its brand-new automated wagon for palletised cargo at stand FM 704A/3. This fast-growing segment represents a key market focus, and the company’s innovation directly responds to evolving logistics demands. The wagon features a fully automated sliding tarpaulin, designed to streamline loading and unloading, thereby reducing downtime and boosting operational efficiency.

As Ermewa noted, the vehicle is engineered to meet increasing demand from industries seeking flexible and sustainable alternatives to road freight. By tackling long-standing pain points in rail cargo handling, Ermewa hopes to position rail as a more competitive and attractive option for palletised transport. Visitors at the Munich fair had the chance to inspect the wagon in person. According to the company, this hands-on presentation was designed to offer a clear look at Ermewa’s customer-oriented, innovation-driven approach to rolling stock development.

Smart Growth Backed by Strategic Investment

Behind this innovation lies a comprehensive investment programme. Over the past five years, Ermewa has not only grown its fleet but also significantly reduced the average age of its wagons—by five to seven years, depending on type. This modernisation effort enhances both performance and sustainability, and signals a long-term strategy to prepare for the rail logistics challenges of the next decade.

Ermewa also pointed to the intermodal sector as a particular focus of investment. With demand for combined transport solutions on the rise, the company has doubled down on building a wagon fleet that supports seamless modal transitions and can operate across diverse logistical chains. According to Ermewa, the growth of its intermodal fleet is not just a reaction to market trends, but a proactive move to lead the industry shift toward greener and more adaptable transport infrastructure.

Rail Over Road: A Commitment to Climate-Neutral Logistics

Sustainability remains the guiding principle behind Ermewa’s expansion. The company sees its investment strategy as a direct contribution to climate-neutral supply chains, positioning Ermewa as a reliable partner in Europe’s energy transition.

Long before the fanfare in Munich, Ermewa had been a consistent voice in advocating for the modal shift from road to rail. This vision now materialises in its ongoing wagon upgrades, customer partnerships, and emphasis on automation and digitalisation.
